Mac vs Windows (Round 1,330,542)

The Windows vs Mac debate has been raging since time itself began. Since Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, or when the Big Bang exploded throughout the Universe, or when the Turtle began to swim through the skies, whichever creation story you go for, Mac and Windows have been locked in a battle for control. Sure, it may seem like they are modern corporate creations to the uninitiated, but the reality is that the battle for the supreme OS has always been at the forefront of creation.

Let’s take a look at what we know:

The Advantages of Mac:

Will probably score you more chicks, because it is so much prettier and has a much higher class image that goes along with it when compared to your Windows products. Unfortunately, you’ll be unable to do anything with these women because you’re going to be spending all your disposable income upgrading the entire machine as it becomes obsolete every few years. Those fancy shapes just aren’t very upgrade friendly, as anyone who has ever owned a Mac for any length of time will tell you. In fact, owning a Mac is a little like purchasing an upmarket mother in law who will constantly be reminding you that, in spite of your best efforts, you’re never really good enough.

The Advantages of Windows:

Windows is essentially your cheap and easy version. Like a plastic molded mobile home, it’s not the best in terms of security, and you may find that you spend ridiculous amounts of your life scanning for viruses, downloading updates, and dealing with the mysterious updates that Windows tells you you must have periodically. Then there’s Vista. Let’s not even go there.

Error messages and blue screens of death are common experiences with Windows, but then again, so is plentiful free ware, being able to upgrade your machine in many ways for $100, and having access to infinitely more games than Mac users could ever dream of.

Do you like it easy and dangerous, or will you spare a little cash and secret humiliation every time you realize that your system is just always .2 /or one prey species away from being able to actually use the software you desire?

And now: 7+ minutes of those damned Apple Vs Mac ads.. Just in case you missed any in the series, happen to be a total glutton for punishment, or are a total apple-o-phile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7ReS_ur4Kc

  1. Chris Says:

If Macs are so hard to upgrade, then why was I able to upgrade this:

    Powerbook G3 233MHz, 64MB RAM, 2GB HD, OS 8.5

    to this:

    Powerbook G3 w/500 MHz G4 processor, 512 MB RAM, 60GB HD, Mac OS 10.4.9

    ?

If “any Mac user can tell you” how “difficult” it is to upgrade a Mac, then why does my PowerMac G4 have three times the RAM it started out with, a 250 GB HD in addition to the 80 GB drive it came with, PCI cards with 802.11g and USB 2.0 (neither of which even existed when the computer was made), and Bluetooth, all without installing a single driver?

The whole “Macs are hard to upgrade” thing is complete BS. I can pop a PCI card in and out of my PowerMac in less than five minutes, and I only have to mess with one single screw. Meanwhile, every PC I’ve upgraded has been a nightmare to even get the case opened.

As for Macs becoming obsolete… try finding any laptop built in 1998 that can run Windows Vista even AFTER hardware upgrades. Meanwhile, my nine-year-old Powerbook runs Tiger just fine; not especially quickly compared to my wife’s Macbook, but well enough.
