Is Microsoft Vista Going to Sink or Swim?

Posted by: Rea Maor In: Microsoft and Windows - Thursday, July 5th, 2007

I know that talking about Windows Vista has almost become a blog meme lately, but frankly the suspense is killing me. It seems like everywhere you look, there’s a cloud over Vista:

Lockergnome is wondering why Vista news is so quiet.

Microsoft Watch notices that Mac OS X and Vista are so much alike, you can learn one from using the other. They also mention that Vista discounts will end soon.

ZD-Net tells us that Microsoft is making it simpler for users to downgrade back to XP! The same author also points out what a tough sell Vista is.

That’s all you’re hearing about it is bad news. Some are calling it “Windows ME 2”, after the Windows ME system which also failed to win the show.

But it may also mean something different, which I haven’t seen anybody else ask: Could the PC market be stagnating? After all, when it’s all said and done, maybe there just isn’t enough room for improvement any more. When the biggest software company in history can’t sell the first new operating system they’ve produced in seven years, something tells me the market has changed.

Perhaps we even have a tech-savvier market now than we did ten years ago. At some point, you’d have to have a greater percentage of people who know how to upgrade their PC manually, browse an alternative market like Mac, Linux, BSD, or Solaris, or people who are just happy with what they have. There really isn’t that much today’s machines can do that a machine from 5 years ago can’t – the first time in history we’ve been able to say that.

I haven’t used vista.. i’ve seen it – it looks super cool. but whenever i hear some one talk about it, its always negative.

    that can’t be good.

Most of the applications are now web based. So you can do most of the stuff with XP than upgrade to vista. Something like a shift towards a web OS..

It’s not a matter of stagnating market
It’s a matter of cheap crap being sold for insane prices.

I will use XP until I

    1) Can play my games without using “fixes” of various stupidity.

    2) Find it for free, because I’m still not paying the wealthiest company in the world a single buck of my already low income.

    3) Find a Reason. DirectX 10 is already being ported to Windows XP and Microsoft sure doesn’t have anything else than shiny crap to show in the OS.
Where’s the innovative new dekstop in 3D? Not there,
where’s the table screen MS bought out and presented as their idea?
    Not near Vista..
And where’s the new simplicity and intelligent OS? Not in Vista.

The OS can easily be improved,
there are literaly Millions of ideas who are great. But Microsoft just didn’t care.
Stagnant? No.. Just cheap and Sonyesque (Sonyesque comes from the “Hey we brought you the walkman and the CD so obviously whatever we come up with, you must love. (BluRay..))
